On Tuesday, the Wild officially announced they have signed Cody Almond to a one year, one-way contract. The deal is reportedly worth $550,000.

You may remember Almond, as he was the Wild's 5th round draft pick (140th overall) in the 2007 NHL Draft. He played bits and pieces of three seasons with the Wild between 2009 and 2012, but never was really able to catch on with the team. Following the 2011-12 season, Almond departed the NHL for the Swiss League playing with Geneve.

Last season, Almond was among the league leaders in goals scored for the Swiss League (T-9 with 18). While he should not be expected to score that many goals in Minnesota next year, he can provide good scoring depth from the bottom six.

Since Almond was signed to a one-way contract it is likely he will be up with Minnesota for a majority of the 2014-15 season. Given the incredible depth Minnesota already has at forward going into the season, one would expect Almond to get most of his time on the fourth line. Even in a limited role, Almond should be able to provide good scoring depth from that fourth line as Minnesota looks to try and roll four scoring lines next season.

Welcome back to the Team of 18,001 Cody Almond!
