Lets check out Mike Rupp's very very short 2013-14 season.

Stats

Minnesota (NHL): 13 GP, 0 G, 1 A, 1 P, 23 PIM
Iowa (AHL): 5 GP, 0 G, 0 A, 0 P, 0 PIM

Review

Between November and January, Rupp would get a sporadic start in the lineup. But after February 1st, Rupp was not seen from until April 10th. And on that night, you sort of wished he had been scratched. This year, Rupp proved to be far too slow to get anything close to ten minutes of ice time when he played. It just became clear that there really wasn't a spot on the team for him because he was just too slow. He notched one assist, and half of his penalty minutes this year came during that April 10th game. Rupp was suspended for four games following the hit on TJ Oshie. It sealed his fate for the remainder of the season, and has left his future in the NHL in doubt. Not a good season for the pending free agent.

Highlights

There was only one Mike Rupp highlight this year, and it is not a good one.

Status for 2014-15

Rupp is an unrestricted free agent this summer. The Wild are a sure lock to not re-sign him, and after his hit on Oshie, it is unclear if he will ever get another job in the NHL again. Teams would be reluctant to give the slow footed Rupp a contract alone, but given his history with dirty play, that might just have sealed his fate. It might have to be a long summer of soul searching for Mike Rupp to see what he can do with his life beyond hockey.
