Game Five Memories

Tonight, the Wild and Avalanche take part in Game Five of a series that has the two teams tied at two games a piece. As we look ahead to tonight's game, lets take a look back at some previous Game Five memories between the two clubs.

2008

The Avs received goals from Andrew Brunette, Wojtek Wolski, and Paul Stastny, and got stellar goaltending from Jose Theodore in route to a 3-2 win. The Avs took the series lead 3-2 here, and went on to win the next game at home to win the series.

2003

Minnesota, down 3-1 in the series, went into Denver and built up a 3-0 lead after two periods thanks to goals from Pascal Dupuis, Filip Kuba, and Willie Mitchell. The Avs made it a close contest in the third, firing off two goals to cut the lead to one, but Manny Fernandez made some great saves to keep the Avs from tying it, and sent the series back to Minnesota. We all know how the series ends.

Notice a trend here? Teams jumping out to big early leads, and solid goaltending to get them to the win. The team that can do this tonight will go back to St Paul on Monday with a 3-2 lead.
