Wild Olympic Update: Finland Takes Bronze over USA

Mikael Granlund (right) had an Olympics to remember.
The Men's Olympic Hockey Tournament wrapped up this morning with Canada defeating Sweden 3-0 for the gold medal. Lets take a look at how the Wild players fared since our last update.

  • A 1-0 loss in the semifinal to Team Canada, crushed the United States hopes of winning their first gold medal since 1980. The team followed up the loss with a lethargic performance against Finland, losing 5-0. Zach Parise had eight shots in the game against Canada, but did not register a shot against Finland while playing over 20 minutes in each contest. Parise finished the Olympics with just one goal while serving as team captain. Ryan Suter played 26:11 in the loss to Canada with two shots on goal. In the loss to Finland, Suter only played 22 minutes and was a minus two with one shot on goal. Suter had three assists during the Olympic tournament.
  • If one player shined above the rest of his Wild teammates in Sochi, it was Mikael Granlund. Wait, lets rephrase that. If one player shined above most other NHL players in Sochi, it was Mikael Granlund. Following a no point effort in the 2-1 semifinal loss to Sweden, Granlund had two assists in the 5-0 rout of Team USA to give him and Team Finland a bronze medal. Granlund finished the tournament with three goals and four assists and was named to the Olympic All-Star Team (Teemu Selanne was named tournament MVP).
The Wild come out of the Olympic break on Thursday in Edmonton then Friday in Vancouver.
