October Wrap Up

Trying another new feature here where we wrap up each month by looking back at the best players, plays, and game. Here is the Team of 18,001's October Wrap Up:

3 Stars

3. Jason Pominville (13 GP, 7 G, 3 PPG)
Pominville justified that new five year extension he received just prior to the season by lighting the lamp seven times in October. He leads the team in goals, and is second on the squad in power play goals (Zach Parise has four). Pommer has three goals in the last two games, thanks to the new found success with Mikael Granlund and should have no issues producing at a similar clip as the year goes on.

2. Matt Cooke (13 GP, 3 G, 5 A, +6, 2 GWG)
Before everyone had a chance to boo Matt Cooke on Opening Night, he already had registered a goal. His eight points is tied for second on the team (with Mikko Koivu and Granlund) and has been a rock on the third line providing solid play in all aspects of the game.

1. Josh Harding (9 GP, 7 GS, 5-2-1, 1.00 GAA, .953 SV%)
After an injury to Backstrom, Harding stepped in and made no effort to look back. His play was beyond stellar and he made his case to remain between the pipes even after Backstrom returned from his leg injury. Harding himself did go down with injury during the Carolina game, but will make his return tonight against Montreal.

Top Plays

5. Pominville goal vs CHI (what a laser!)

4. Brodin goal vs LA (great pass from Niederreiter)

3. Niederreiter goal vs CAR (no look pass from Granlund)

2. Pominville goal vs CHI (Granlund with the great play)

1. Harding save vs TB (sheer robbery)

BEST GAME
October 26th at Chicago.
Coming off a very unconvincing 3-1 win over Carolina, the Wild brought their "A-Game" to Chicago where they gave their best performance of the season. It is not easy to go into the United Center and win OR score five goals against them, but the Wild were able to do it all in one fun filled night for the 20,000+ spectators in the Madhouse on Madison. Jason Pominville had two goals (thanks to Mikael Granlund's terrific play) and Niklas Backstrom stopped 33 shots in the team's 5-3 victory. (Photo: Nam Y. Huh/AP)
